Member - The Epsilon Star Trust
We are seeking to appoint a new Member to join the Trust's governance structure and support the long‑term strategic oversight of the organisation.
The Epsilon Star Trust is a multi-academy trust based in Benfleet, Essex. Established in September 2016, its core mission is to support schools and academies in achieving the best possible outcomes for their pupils. It oversees Kents Hill Junior School and Lubbins Park Primary Academy and Nursery, both of which focus on providing high-quality education and fostering positive learning environments
The Role of a Member
This is a voluntary role. Members sit at the top of the Trust's governance structure, and are responsible for holding the trust board to account for the effective governance of the trust. Members ensure that the academy trust's charitable objective is being met and assess the performance of the Board of Trustees.
As a Member, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the Trust's charitable objectives are fulfilled
- Assessing the performance of the Board of Trustees
- Approving amendments to the Trusts Articles of Association
- Appointing Members and Trustees
- Appointing auditors
- Receiving and reviewing the annual reports and accounts
About You
We are looking for individuals with integrity, good judgement, and a strong commitment to improving education. You do not need prior experience in school governance - we welcome candidates from a wide range of professional backgrounds.
You will bring:
Strong strategic thinking and the ability to offer constructive challenge
Independence of thought and a commitment to high standards
An understanding of corporate governance or willingness to learn
The ability to act impartially and make decisions in the best interests of the Trust
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
We would particularly welcome experience in areas such as:
- Finance, auditing, or risk management
- Law or compliance
- Education or public sector management
- HR, organisational development, or safeguarding
- Charity governance or board‑level leadership
