Are you passionate about supporting young people who are unable to attend school due to medical needs? Join our dynamic Medical Education Team at Children's Support Service and help make a real difference in pupils' lives.

We are seeking a dedicated Teacher of English to deliver high-quality, remote English lessons to students with medical needs. This role involves adapting teaching for individual learning plans and working closely with our Medical Team to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Students accessing our medical provision are on short-term placements with us and our goal is to reintegrate them back into their mainstream setting.

This role will require travel to our Basildon Centre once a week (Wednesday afternoon) for team meetings.

What we offer:

  • Flexible remote working arrangements - teach from the comfort of your own home.
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment - support at the end of the phone or an opportunity to teach your remote lessons in one of our Centres if you prefer. This role truly is as flexible as you would like it to be.
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development - a wealth of opportunities both in-house and beyond.
  • The chance to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, teach and assess English lessons remotely
  • Adapt learning for individual student needs and health circumstances
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support student wellbeing and progress

We are looking for:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS) with experience teaching English (secondary)
  • Experience with remote learning platforms and supporting students with health-related challenges (desirable)
  • Someone who is empathetic, resilient, and committed to pupil success

If you're ready to use your skills and experience to support students facing medical challenges, we'd love to hear from you.

Information about the School

The Children’s Support Service is a short stay alternative provision in Essex. We have two main centres covering KS2-4 (in Wickford and Basildon) as well as an Outreach Service which works to support students, staff and schools in the local area, with bases in Basildon and Harlow.

Most of our students are referred to us due to difficulties they have faced in school; many come with additional needs and require academic, emotional and social support.

We offer a wide range of subjects, including the core curriculum, as well as enhanced activities to provide an enriched learning experience. We collaborate with schools and professionals who need our support, and aim to reintegrate students back into mainstream education or prepare them for other lifelong learning opportunities.

Our staff create positive, safe, caring and supportive learning environments, helping to inspire every child to achieve their full potential.

CSS staff benefit from our subscription to the "Education Support Partnership", which provides mental health and well-being support services for all staff, including 24/7 access to advice, support and counselling for our whole team.

Please note that car insurance including "business use" is required.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
