SEN TEACHER - DARLINGHURST ACADEMY - KS1/2
Full time, permanent
Pay Range - Main Pay Scale / Upper Pay Scale
Additional SEN Allowance dependent on experience
Required September 2026
An exciting opportunity has arisen at our forward‑thinking and inclusive academy. We are seeking an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher to lead our specialist primary SEN room-an internal provision designed to support pupils with high‑level needs including autism, communication needs, and personalised learning profiles. This vibrant and positive space enables children with SEND to thrive, grow in confidence, and be supported on their own individual learning journeys.
Our academy is deeply committed to inclusion. Every member of staff plays a role in ensuring that all children belong and are able to thrive. If you share this commitment and have the expertise to lead a specialist provision, we would love to hear from you.
Our SEN room provides a nurturing, structured, and personalised environment for pupils whose needs make it challenging to access the mainstream curriculum full‑time. Learning is carefully adapted to each child's age, stage, and developmental profile, while still connecting to the wider academy curriculum. Children may attend the provision full‑time, part‑time, or through a blended model that includes sessions in mainstream classes. This flexible approach ensures pupils remain connected to their peers and the wider school community, supporting both academic and social development.
You will lead a dedicated team consisting of a Lead LSA and LSA support, who work collaboratively to deliver high‑quality care, learning, and therapeutic approaches each day. You will also act as a strong advocate for our children, ensuring they experience equity, enrichment, and meaningful opportunities across their school experience.
Your Role Will Include:
- Leading the day‑to‑day running of the SEN room
- Planning and delivering personalised learning that meets each child's developmental needs
- Ensuring learning remains connected to the academy's curriculum and ethos
- Working closely with the Inclusion leader
- Coordinating with mainstream teachers to support blended timetables
- Overseeing and supporting LSAs in the setting to deliver consistent, high‑quality provision
- Working closely with families and external agencies to ensure holistic support
- Monitoring progress and contributing to ISPs and EHCP reviews and assessments.
What We're Looking For:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong experience working with children with SEN
- Knowledge of SEN strategies, interventions, and specialist approaches
- Additional SEN training (e.g., ASD, ADHD, communication needs) desirable
- Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
- Empathy, adaptability, and a commitment to inclusive practice
Why Join Us?
At Darlinghurst Academy, inclusion is not an add‑on-it's at the heart of everything we do. You will be joining a supportive, reflective, and passionate team who believe that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish.
We offer:
- A collaborative and caring staff culture
- Ongoing professional development, including SEN‑specific training
- Opportunities to shape and develop a growing provision
- A leadership team committed to supporting staff wellbeing and professional growth
