Are you an aspirational and enthusiastic SEND professional who wants to make a genuine difference for children? West Leigh Infant School is a vibrant four-form entry infant school with wonderful children and a friendly, committed team. We are seeking an energetic and reflective SENDCo to lead and further develop our provision from January 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SENDCo or an excellent classroom practitioner with a strong commitment to SEND and inclusion. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for SEND, work closely with families and external professionals, and support colleagues to secure high-quality inclusive practice and strong outcomes for pupils.
The successful candidate will
· Be passionate about inclusion and securing the best possible outcomes for pupils with SEND.
· Be an exemplary primary practitioner with high expectations for all pupils.
· Have a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and the graduated approach.
· Have experience of writing, reviewing and managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), or demonstrate the knowledge and capacity to do so effectively.
· Have experience of effective multi-agency working, including with educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and other professionals.
· Communicate confidently and sensitively with children, families, colleagues, governors and external agencies.
· Lead, support and develop colleagues to strengthen inclusive classroom practice and SEND provision.
· Use assessment information effectively to monitor provision, progress and outcomes.
Be highly organised, able to prioritise and able to meet statutory and school deadlines.
Information about the School
West Leigh Infant School is a large, popular infant school, located in the historic fishing village of Leigh-on-Sea. Our school is held in high esteem by our community, eleven years ago we celebrated our centenary and there are strong links with local families.
'Together we aim high, work hard, have fun' - our school is a welcoming, friendly, caring school with happy, confident children who enjoy learning and achieving well. In addition, our pupils are fortunate to be able to walk to the sea, visit local churches and Belfairs Park as well as enjoying a wide range of coach and rail trips. We also benefit from an on-site swimming pool. We are a maintained school with a 4 form entry teaching children in the age range 4 - 7 years.
