Part-Time School Librarian

PayScale:Band A4 plus SEN allowance (£10,365 actual)
16 hrs per week; 10am - 2pm, Tuesday to Friday
45.8wksper year (1extrapaidweek after 5 yearsofservice)

We areseekingto appointa school librarian to manage the school library, support students and teachers andgenerally promotea positive reading culture.The ideal candidate will have a compassionate approach to working with children with a variety of special needs andwillbe committed to promoting an inclusive and positive environment.

Previousexperience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.

In March2025Treetops School was judged by Ofsted to havemaintainedthe standardsidentifiedat thepreviousinspection.Thepreviousinspection was in February 2020, at which time Treetops was judged as Outstanding. Treetops Free School, which officially opened in September 2022, was judged Good in its first Ofsted inspection in March 2024. 

Students throughoutTreetopsLearning Community have complex needs varying from moderate to severe learning difficulties, which mayinclude;speech and communication difficulties,autismand global developmental delay.

Job Description

Managing the Library Collection

  • Organise and classify books.
  • Shelve andmaintainmaterials in good condition.
  • Remove outdated or damaged items from the collection.

Supporting Students' Learning

  • Help students find information and books for research or personal reading.
  • Support students how tolocate, evaluate, and use information
  • Support reading programs, book clubs possible, and storytelling sessions.



Assisting Teachers and the School

  • Support teachers to provide resources for classroom lessons.
  • RWI organisation of boxes and packs
  • Prepare reading lists or resource packs for specific subjects or topics

Library Administration

  • Keep borrowing records and track overdue books.
  • Support library volunteers, or student helpers.

AcceleratedReadingBook Finder

  • Renaissance Learning website
  • Label the book with its AR information (usually on the spine or inside cover).
  • Checking new books and applying correct colour codes
  • Keeping AR and colour-coded shelves tidy andaccurate
  • Updating labels when levels change
  • AR shelves, ensuring all books are accurately catalogued and clearly marked.
