SENCO
We are looking for an experienced SENDCO to work with us for two days per week (working days to be mutually agreed).
We are a small, friendly, inclusive primary school looking to recruit a dynamic and energetic team member, to start Summer term 2025.
The successful candidate should be passionate about inclusion and share in the school's vision. We are a trauma-informed school and we believe in the importance of building meaningful and productive relationships with pupils, parents and staff. JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose
· To ensure that effective systems are in place to identify and address Special Education Needs
· To work closely with staff, families and Local Authority agencies to ensure appropriate provision is in place for SEND pupils
· To line manage SEND support staff
Duties
Teaching and learning:
· Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for SEND pupils
· Monitor teaching and learning activities to ensure they meet the needs of SEND pupils
· Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring SEND pupils
· Promote Inclusion best practice and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through membership of the Senior Leadership Team.
Recording and assessment:
· Set targets for raising achievement among SEND pupils and other groups as appropriate
· Collect and interpret specialist assessment and performance data and share with other staff and Governors as appropriate
· Set up systems for identifying SEND and assessing and reviewing SEND provision. This includes creating and monitoring EHC plans, One Plans and provision maps with class teachers and support staff
· Update the Headteacher and Governing body on the effectiveness of provision for SEND children. This includes preparing an annual SEND Information Report and a termly SEND overview
· Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings and at parents' evenings
· As necessary, prepare applications for EHCP; co-ordinate and attend annual reviews
· Maintain SEND register
· Evaluate the effectiveness of provision.
Leadership:
· Ensure all members of staff are able to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to SEND pupils
· Provide training opportunities for staff to learn about Inclusion, including whole school INSET (minimum one staff meeting per term)
· Disseminate good practice in Inclusion across the school
· Identify resources needed to meet the needs of SEND pupils and manage the SEND budget
· Work with the Headteacher and Governors on the strategic development of SEND and Inclusion, including reviewing and formulating appropriate policies
· To be responsible for the supervision and organisation of SEND learning support assistants, including their performance management
· Support pupil progress meetings, recording agreed provision within provision maps
· To be involved in the appointment of SEND Learning Support Assistants
· To work with the Headteacher and other key staff on developing the effectiveness of transition arrangements between pre-school settings and Reception
· Liaise with the SEND Operations service and other specialist and support agencies
· To keep abreast of developments in SEND (e.g., research, changes to the law) and inform staff and Governors, as necessary
· To attend appropriate training, CPD and conferences and provide feedback to colleagues
· Work with the Headteacher to plan the overall deployment of support staff throughout the school
· Undertake SEND self-evaluation, contributing to the school SEF and improvement plan and planning for continuous improvement in inclusion practice
· Model good practice in teaching pupils with SEND including those with severe complex needs
· Develop links with governors, the LA, external agencies and neighbouring schools.
Other and responsibilities
· To willingly undertake any reasonable task requested by the Headteacher from time to time to support the safeguarding of staff and children.
