We are excited to be growing our central HR team and we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Payroll and HR Assistant to join us on a part-time, year-round basis. In this role, you will support the Payroll Manager in the day-to-day administration of payroll services, ensuring processes are accurate, timely, and efficient across our secondary schools, while also providing support to primary school colleagues as needed.

You will play a key role in preparing and checking payroll reports, maintaining strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, and contributing to the smooth delivery of HR and payroll operations.This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills, with potential for future progression and access to further training through the Apprenticeship Levy (following a successful probationary period).

Information about the School

St Martin's School is a large co-educational comprehensive school located in Hutton, Brentwood. The school benefits from a pleasant semi-rural environment with agricultural land to the rear. The school, which also includes a large sixth form block, is situated on an open, attractive 30 acre site. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by both rail and bus. Hutton is five miles from the M25 and 19 miles from London, which is easily reached by road or train (25 minutes to Liverpool Street Station).

This is a large, but friendly school in which all staff are helped to develop their talents. This is supported by an extensive and wide ranging in-house continual professional development programme (CPD). We have high quality mentoring and induction programmes for staff with excellent opportunities for training and professional development.

2025 – 74.9% of students achieved grades 9-4 in GCSE English Literature and 74.8% in GCSE English Language and 78.1% of students achieved grades 9-4 in Mathematics 2024 – 77.5% of students achieved 9 - 4 in GCSE English Literature and 79.5% in GCSE English Language and 79.9% of students achieved 9 - 4 in Mathematics - Over Subscribed - 1184 applications for 292 year 7 places in 2023 - Ofsted 2024 - Good with outstanding leadership
