Site Manager

We are seeking to appoint a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Site Manager to take responsibility for ensuring that the school site, buildings, learning environment and other facilities are maintained and operate to the highest possible standard.

The Position

Contract: Full time, permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week, term time plus an additional 5 weeks (43 weeks per year)
Usual hours: 6.15am-10.00am and 1.45pm-5.00pm
These hours are open to negotiation for the right candidate.

Salary: Essex 2026 Salary Scale 5/6, Points 9-17, depending on experience
Salary range: £27,983 - £31,751 FTE
These salaries are pro rata, meaning you will receive a proportion of the full-time salary based on the number of hours and weeks worked. Your actual salary will be confirmed in your contract of employment.

The Role

Working with the support of the Headteacher and the school's Senior Leadership Team, the Site Manager will hold primary responsibility for the operational management, safety and continuous improvement of the school site.

The successful candidate will ensure that all school buildings, grounds and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards, providing a safe, compliant and inspiring environment for pupils, staff and the wider school community.

The Successful Candidate Will:

Have a good range of practical skills and experience, including building and grounds maintenance, general painting and repairs.
Ideally have previous caretaking or site management experience.
Have responsibility for carrying out statutory checks, including weekly fire alarm testing and Legionella testing.
Respond to incidents around the school on a daily basis, including cleaning up accidents and spillages, setting up and clearing away equipment such as chairs and tables, and carrying out porterage duties.
Act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds, including the routine and non-routine opening of the premises.
Respond to calls outside normal working hours when required, for example as a result of the burglar alarm.
Communicate effectively with a range of people, including children, staff, parents, visitors and contractors.
Have a good awareness of health and safety and safeguarding requirements.
Be approachable, well-motivated and able to work independently and use their own initiative.
Be required to open the school each weekday morning. There may be occasions when you will be required to stay later on an overtime basis.
Collaborate with School Leadership and the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) on strategic facilities planning, capital investment projects and long-term asset management.
Act as the school's custodian for health, safety and statutory compliance, ensuring the site meets all relevant legal obligations and safeguarding requirements.
