Family Liaison Officer
Job Title: Family Liaison Officer
Location: Millhouse Primary School and Nursery
Reports to: Headteacher / Designated Safeguarding Lead
Salary: Scale 5 points 9-12
Hours: 37 hours per week (some flexibility to start and finish times but start time can be no later than 8:30)
Purpose of the Role
To act as a vital link between school, children, and families, providing support to improve engagement and well-being. The role focuses on building positive relationships, addressing barriers to learning, and promoting inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advice and guidance to parents/carers on issues affecting their child's education and well-being.
Support families in accessing external services (housing, benefits, mental health, etc.).
Organise workshops and information sessions for parents on topics such as parenting, health, sleep and education.
Work directly with children to improve engagement in school and promote emotional well-being.
Offer one-to-one or small group sessions for pupils experiencing social or emotional difficulties.
Liaise with teaching staff to identify pupils needing additional support.
Build strong relationships with local agencies, charities, and community groups.
Promote parental involvement in school activities
Keep detailed case notes and prepare reports for meetings (e.g., multi-agency, safeguarding).
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Education & Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Experience
- Experience working with children and families in an educational or community setting.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection.
- Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Ability to work well alongside colleagues across the school.

- Resilient and able to manage challenging situations calmly.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Able to use initiative in a range of situations.
- Flexibility- willing to be flexible with hours so that meetings/ training can be attended.
Desirable Criteria
- An understanding of our local area.
- Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways.
- Training in mental health first aid or similar.
- Relevant qualification in social care, education, or family support (or willingness to train).
