Riverside Primary School is a popular, oversubscribed, community primary school at the heart of the charming village of Hullbridge. Due to the retirement of our current Learning Mentor, we are seeking to appoint a Learning Mentor to join our happy, successful school for 20 hours per week. One day must be a Wednesday and the other days can be negotiated at interview. The successful candidate would work across both key stages and be part of a our pastoral team which includes our SENCo, Inclusion Assistant, Deputy Headteachers and Headteacher. Any applicants should be willing to undergo full induction and support, plus any additional training courses.
The Learning Mentor qualification is highly desirable, as is good knowledge of key behaviour interventions.

Job Title
Behaviour Support: Learning Mentor
Reports to

Job Purpose
promote a positive, optimistic attitude to learning and achievement within the school, with pupils and families and the wider community
develop a coordinated learning mentor programme within the school pupil support structure, ensuring clear understanding of the distinctive role of learning mentors
monitor pupil progress and response on regular basis, taking rapid action to provide support if difficulties become apparent
provide reports as required
follow school policies and practices, for example, in relation to child protection, teaching and learning and health and safety
Duties
To identify the individual needs of the young person and draw up an action plan.
∙ To make contact with parents and establish ongoing supportive and positive
relationships.
∙ Liaise with Extended Services provision to provide support for children and
Families, e.g. behaviour support; Family Support Worker interventions
∙ To establish a one-to-one relationship with the young person to assist in the
personal development of the mentee.
∙ To develop a sense of self-esteem and self-worth by supporting mentee to
succeed and re-engage in learning.
∙ To help mentee to take responsibility for their own life by making appropriate
choices.
∙ To keep records and maintain a monitoring system to enable the assessment of
targets and action plans.
∙ To review progress of mentee by interim reports and final evaluation.
∙ To participate in training, induction and ongoing professional development.
To participate in the performance management review process.
The Learning Mentor will be committed to:

following school policies, for example, child protection, special needs, teaching and learning and health and safety

General
To carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher or their representative.
The duties may be varied to meet the changing demands of the School at the reasonable discretion of the Headteacher.

Riverside Primary School, situated 500m from the River Crouch, opened in September 2010 when the Infant and Junior schools amalgamated. We are very proud to be an integral part of the village of Hullbridge, building and enjoying strong links with other schools, local businesses and members of our local community.
