THE THOMAS LORD AUDLEY SCHOOL

LEAD TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS - SEPTEMBER 2020

MPS/UPS + TLR 2A (£6,829)

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational teacher who is able to show an ability to be our next Lead Teacher of Mathematics. The current Lead Teacher will continue to work with us but her role will be changing; this will include line management and coaching of the successful candidate. This means we offer a great opportunity for somebody with the ambition and determination to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of teachers and will teach students across Key Stage 3 and 4. Please refer to the separate document entitled 'The TLA Maths Department' to find more information about the department.

The school is in a strong position and consistently secures good outcomes for students, including in Mathematics. In 2019, the school's Progress 8 element for Maths was positive.

We have seven dedicated Mathematics classrooms, all with interactive SMART boards, and access to ICT rooms and laptops. We use a range of ICT programmes to support learning within the classroom and at home. The Mathematics team has a strong ethos of working together and regularly share ideas and resources to support planning and teaching. The team has built up a bank of activities to engage students and would welcome new ideas to contribute to these resources. Every member of staff is committed to engage with new teaching ideas, such as the bar model, and support each other when needed.

The school follows a 25 period week and each period is 60 minutes. Students in Key Stage 4 have four periods per week whilst Key Stage 3 have seven periods per fortnight. Students are placed into sets from the beginning of Year 7 and through regular assessment the sets are frequently reviewed. The department has a wide number of interventions to support progress in KS3 and KS4 and are keen to widen this with new ideas and involve new staff to make this stronger.

The schemes of work are objective led and allow for easy differentiation and challenge at both KS3 and KS4. A major focus of the department is problem solving and decoding harder questions. KS3 and KS4 follow the Edexcel linear course, complemented by the Edexcel text resource. Students follow either the foundation or higher course. There are many opportunities for Mathematics staff to be involved in developing new lesson ideas and activities to promote deeper understanding in a wider context.

The Maths Department fully engages with all of the Maths Departments within the Trust. This includes student activities, curriculum development and staff CPD. The Lead Teacher will represent our school at Sigma Maths meetings led by the Sigma Strategic Maths Lead who is currently based at TLA. The school participates, through The Sigma Trust, in leadership development programmes, including NPQML, NPQSL and NPQH. Currently there are two members of the Maths Department completing NPQML.
