Band 3 - 1 year Fixed Term Contract

Grade: Band 3 (point scale 8-16. Pay Range £10,279 - £12,384 - actual salary)

Hours: 27.08 hours per week - term time only

Responsible To: Head teacher

Job Purpose:

To support pupils' access to learning by caring for their personal welfare assisting with the co-ordination of classroom activities and maintenance of a safe and stimulating learning environment. To promote the development of the physical and mental well-being of pupils as directed by a teacher.

General Duties:

To promote the safeguarding of children and ensure children's safety at all times.
· To work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of the class teacher to secure good progress.

· To establish positive relationships with pupils supported.

· To implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the class teacher adjusting activities according to pupil's responses as appropriate.

· To support pupils with activities which develop literacy and numeracy skills.

· To support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop pupils' competence and independence in its use.

· To promote positive pupils' behaviour in line with school policies and help keep pupils on task.

· To interact with, and support pupils, according to individual needs and skills.

· To promote the inclusion and acceptance of children with special needs within the classroom ensuring access to lessons and their content through appropriate clarification, explanation and resources.

· To participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour.

· To monitor and record pupil activities as appropriate, writing records and reports as required.

· To provide feedback to pupils in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the class teacher.

· To support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the class teacher.

· To attend to pupil's personal needs including help with social, welfare and health matters, including minor first aid.

· To assist with the preparation, maintenance and control of stocks of materials and resources.

· To liaise with other staff and provide information about pupils as appropriate.

· To assist with the display and presentation of pupil's work.

· To supervise pupils for limited and specified periods including break-times on a rotational basis.

· To assist with escorting pupils on educational visits.

· To understand and apply school policies in relation to health, safety and welfare.

· To attend relevant training and take responsibility for own development.

· To attend relevant school meetings as required.

· To respect confidentiality at all times.

Other Duties

Any other duties required by Head Teacher or Inclusion Manager which are appropriate to the post that may reasonably required from time to time.

To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the school's Health and Safety guidance and legislation.
Monitor any problems and difficulties reporting these to teaching staff.

ESSENTIAL

QUALIFICATIONS
• GCSE Grade C+ or equivalent in English and Maths

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Supporting Learning
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Supporting Learning

• Evidence of continuing professional development.
EXPERIENCE
• Successful current experience working with children of all ability

COMMUNICATION
• Able to speak and write in Standard English

• Able to use correct English grammar and punctuation

• Ability to use clear language to communicate information unambiguously

• Ability to listen effectively
