We are looking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Caretakerto join our school team. The successful post holder will be flexible in their work, with good general maintenance and DIY skills, for example, decorating, carpentry, plumbing. Good communication skills are required as you will be liaising with contractors, tradesman as well as staff. You will take pride in your work and be able to use your initiative.

Ideally you should have an awareness of COSHH and safe manual handling practices. Prior experience within a similar setting is desirable, but not essential. Full driving licenceis essential.

Duties will include unlocking the premises, be a primary key holder, attending call outs, maintenance duties,porterage.

The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday7:00 am - 11:00 am then 2:30 pm - 6:00 pmand Friday7:00 am - 11:00 am then 2:30 pm - 5:30pm and this will be required 52 weeks of the year (holidays to be taken in school closure periods).Start date as soon as possible.

Information about the School

We are a specialist day free school in Witham, Essex working with children and young people who are severely affected by their autism and associated learning difficulties. Our pupils are ages 4-19. Most of our pupils are pre-vocal or in the early stages of developing communicative skills.

We believe that through a consistent and individualised curriculum, using effective and evidence based learning techniques we can ensure that our pupils leave us as independent as possible and with life-long socially significant skills which will enable them to access the world around them in a rich and meaningful way.

We have high expectations of our pupils and believe that they can achieve great things. Our primary focus is to provide all our pupils with an effective form of communication which they can use throughout their lives. We also aim to teach them important tolerance, life and academic skills which will be functional in their real lives beyond school.

Chatten provision includes access to individualised curriculums based on input in the areas of; applied behaviour analysis (ABA), speech and language therapy (SALT), occupational therapy (OT) and qualified teacher (QTS) level educational interventions. We use evidence based interventions and monitor progress meticulously to ensure that methods are effective for the pupil.
