We are looking to add to our friendly, family orientated team. Our Outstanding setting is term-time and children attend 9.30 till 14.30.

Working hours would be 9 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday. Start and finish time can be flexible to work around school drop off/pick up.

Main duties

§ To understand children's individual needs appropriate to their age and level of development. To contribute to the planning and organisation of activities on an individual and group basis by participating in staff meetings and curriculum planning.

§ To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.

§ Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members and outside agencies when required.

§ To advise the management team of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

§ To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.

§ To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.

§ To actively participate at staff meetings, supervisions, appraisals, open evenings and holiday clubs.

§ To attend training courses including in-service training as required and to take responsibility for your development and for the development of your key children.

§ To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.

§ To be aware of and adhere to all the settings operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting etc.

§ To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly e.g. Tapestry. All records should be available to parents/carers and outside agencies with up to date information.

§ To maintain a flexible approach to the changing needs of children.

§ To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the management team, in accordance with statutory requirements and the settings objectives.

§ Ensure the nursery represents the Stepping stones ethos of inclusion representing the whole family in a professional, caring manner at all times.

Person specification

Essential criteria

§ Willingness to learn

§ Level 3 childcare qualification

§ Previous experience of working with young children

§ Sound knowledge of child development from birth to five years

§ Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

§ Knowledge of child protection procedures

§ Good communication skills

§ Commitment to equal opportunities

§ Commitment to working effectively with young children and families

§ Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships

Desirable criteria

§ To be willing to support the charity by attending fundraising events.

§ First aid training

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
