Salary: £19,157 per annum (£17,557 for term time only working)

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (term time only working will be considered)

Autism Anglia's Doucecroft School provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-established charity who provide to their staff ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.

In line with other members of the site team, you will have responsibility for general maintenance and upkeep of the school, the grounds and decor across the whole property, adhering to the Health and Safety protocols at all times. You will also be involved in simple vehicle maintenance and upkeep, and be able to provide solutions to straight forward general school maintenance issues that arise.

Your main duties will include:

Completion of jobs allocated through our 'Vantage' workflow / allocation system, as designated to you by the site manager.
Reporting of any issues that may require escalation or the need to be brought to the attention of managers in the school, including health and safety issues.
Proactively look for and undertake any visible maintenance issues or concerns, including internal and external buildings and features, plus the general upkeep of the grounds that are not undertaking by external contractors.
Develop a thorough knowledge of all the buildings, grounds and equipment in order to carry out all aspects of the job thoroughly.
Conducting regular vehicle checks; oil, water, tyre pressures/wear and completing weekly checklists as appropriate, along with other light maintenance checks.


Experience:

  • Experience as a handyman or in caretaking and building maintenance work, ideally in a school environment, especially in a 'special needs' setting.
  • Knowledge of basic site maintenance and good practices in building services, eg heating, plumbing, joinery, electrical fittings, decorating and vehicle maintenance
  • Knowledge of general Health & Safety regulations in the workplace
  • Ability to plan and prioritise a range of tasks, work on your own or off own initiative when needed.
  • It is essential that the successful applicant holds a full driving license.

Doucecroft School is a specialist co-educational school for children and young people with autism and additional complex needs, age 3 –19 years. Established in 1977, we are experienced and successful in meeting the needs of students with wide-ranging strengths and needs, providing a nurturing environment where students are able to thrive and grow in independence and self-esteem.

Students can benefit from our flexible boarding provision or can attend school as day students and come from across the Anglia region and the London boroughs.

Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are provided on-site by our experienced therapy team.

Doucecroft School is part of Autism Anglia, a regional charity working with children, adults and families affected by Autism.
