We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Deputy Science Lead to join a friendly and supportive department which has developed into a highly regarded team, under strong leadership, in line with the rapid improvement of the school. Applications are welcome from experienced practitioners, able to teach throughout the age and ability range, with the relevant skills to add leadership capacity by taking on a key role within Science.

The principal responsibilities of the Deputy Science Lead will be to coordinate student interventions and to develop the quality of teaching and learning across the department with additional roles to be negotiated following appointment based on the successful candidate's strengths and experience. This opportunity would suit any teacher with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to raising standards and the ability to form positive relationships with young people.

These are exciting times at Alec Hunter, since our most recent Ofsted inspection graded the school as 'good' for the first time in its history, with the report noting that "School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid".

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. In addition, we are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, and other schools within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
