Specialist Learning Support Assistant (Autism)
Required as soon as possible

32.5 hours per week. Term time only.

£15,363 to £16,303 actual salary (Point 8-11 Essex Scale 5)
Hours of working: 8.15 - 3.45 pm Monday to Friday

We are seeking a Specialist Learning Support Assistant to provide personalised support and mentoring for individuals and/or small groups of students with ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition), assisting with classwork, behaviour management and helping students with their daily routine.

The successful candidate will join our established SEN Support Department developing and delivering high quality support to students, empowering independence and development of skills for future progression. You will be supported by the team and would be expected to engage fully with the advice and guidance offered by the team as well as any formal training provided by the school.

Experience of working with students with ASC who have complex needs and present challenging behaviours, either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, is essential as well as an understanding of working with learners who have other SEN barriers to learning.

The ideal candidate will:

· Provide support for KS3/4 students with a range of needs and abilities including, moderate learning difficulties and Autism.

· Provide structured support and guidance in the development of students' academic and social needs.

· Provide in-class support to teachers in delivering the curriculum.

· Be passionate about working with and supporting children.

· Have high expectations of students' behaviour.

· Be flexible and open to new ideas.

· Be a team player.

· Fully support the ethos and aims of our school.

Information about the School

Southchurch High School is an oversubscribed 11-16 mixed comprehensive school. We are fortunate to be housed in a spacious, modern building, one wing of which has been recently refurbished. We have recently moved into our new 4 court Sports Hall. These developments have helped to give the School a very positive future.

Southchurch High School is situated near one of Southend's many attractive Victorian conservation areas. The area benefits from being very close to the lively Southend town centre as well as a short walk from the attractive Cliff Gardens and the seafront.

Southend also benefits from superb transport links, the School is a short walk from Southend East train station on the Fenchurch Street line and Southend Victoria, on the Liverpool Street line, is just a short bus ride from the School. Both rail lines are less than an hour away into London. Southend also benefits from excellent road links and the rapidly developing London Southend Airport which flies to a growing number of destinations throughout Europe.

Southend is a lively thriving town with seven miles of seafront (with a number of Blue Flag beaches), the world's longest pleasure pier (1.25 miles in length!), a busy shopping centre, many diverse places to eat and drink, a world class diving and swimming centre and plenty of cultural offerings including two theatres and a number of museums and galleries.
