Assistant Caretaker/Groundsperson
Scale 2, Band 2/3 (depending on experience)
52.14 weeks per year (annual leave to be taken during school closures)
20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 1pm to 5pm
At Mersea Island School we are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful school site. We are seeking to appoint a reliable and friendly Assistant Caretaker/Groundsperson who will share our passion to achieve the highest standards possible.
The role will entail a wide range of duties, but for the right candidate with a passion for grounds maintenance, the role would be ideal.
All applicants must have experience of working in a practical capacity. Knowledge of grounds maintenance is essential.
The role involves manual handling and knowledge of basic Health and Safety precautions desirable.
Candidates must also be proactive, show initiative and be able to work alone. All applicants must have an ability to work with children and possess good communication skills including computer literacy.
The successful applicant will act as a role model who sets high expectations and establishes productive working relationships with pupils and staff whilst being committed to our school values;

Information about the School
Mersea Island School currently has 380 pupils aged 2-11, this includes a nursery with capacity for up to 48 children. It is the only school on the island, serving a closely knit community. The school is located on Mersea Island, off the coast of Essex and close to Colchester. The area surrounding the school in the town of West Mersea is semi-rural. The island is famous for its oyster cultivation and traditional fishing boats, and has a history of sailing. Pupils derive from a very mixed social background, and many of the pupils have parents and grandparents who attended the school.
