Information about the School
Colchester Academy is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school situated in Colchester, Essex. Colchester Academy first opened in September 2010 and boasts a state of the art building with modern design and a wealth of technology. Smaller than average-sized for a secondary academy, the school will provide 1,200 places for students aged 11-16, when fully subscribed and prides itself on small class sizes, meaning increased one-to-one teaching. This is an incredibly exciting time in our journey, as we have just joined a local Academy Chain, South Suffolk Learning Trust (SSLT).
The Colchester Academy school vision is to provide “challenge for all” and to support students from all backgrounds to gain skills and experience to facilitate their future choices. It challenges students academically as well as providing a range of opportunities for them to receive a well-rounded learning experience. The "no child left behind" approach is particularly important to the school: education moves at a pace that allows every child to thrive and help is given to students who feel they are falling behind.
“Leaders and trustees are determined to improve the outcomes for pupils. As a consequence, in 2017, key stage 4 pupils' overall progress was above average. Relationships between pupils and teachers are strong and help pupils to learn well. Pupils feel safe in the school. Pupils are polite and courteous. Most pupils take pride in their work and wear their uniform with pride. The behaviour of pupils is good. Pupils told inspectors that is it 'fine to be different' at this school. Pupils and parents say that joining Colchester Academy is a positive experience.”
