THE THOMAS LORD AUDLEY SCHOOL
TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS - SEPTEMBER 2020
MPS - £24,373 to £35,971
(Suitable for an experienced or newly qualified teacher)
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking teacher of Mathematics to join a team of dedicated teachers. Please refer to the separate document entitled 'The TLA Maths Department' to find more information about the department. The successful candidate will teach students across Key Stage 3 and 4 and will take ownership of their own classroom base. This post is suitable for an individual currently completing teacher training who would be an NQT in September 2020.
The school is in a strong position and consistently secures good outcomes for students, including in Mathematics. In 2019, the school's Progress 8 element for Maths was positive.
We have seven dedicated Mathematics classrooms, all with interactive SMART boards, and access to ICT rooms and laptops. We use a range of ICT programmes to support learning within the classroom and at home. The Mathematics team has a strong ethos of working together and regularly share ideas and resources to support planning and teaching. The team has built up a bank of activities to engage students and would welcome new ideas to contribute to these resources. Every member of staff is committed to engage with new teaching ideas, such as the bar model, and support each other when needed.
The school follows a 25 period week and each period is 60 minutes. Students in Key Stage 4 have four periods per week whilst Key Stage 3 have seven periods per fortnight. Students are placed into sets from the beginning of Year 7 and through regular assessment the sets are frequently reviewed. The department has a wide number of interventions to support progress in KS3 and KS4 and are keen to widen this with new ideas and involve new staff to make this stronger.
The schemes of work are objective led and allow for easy differentiation and challenge at both KS3 and KS4. A major focus of the department is problem solving and decoding harder questions. KS3 and KS4 follow the Edexcel linear course, complemented by the Edexcel text resource. Students follow either the foundation or higher course. There are many opportunities for Mathematics staff to be involved in developing new lesson ideas and activities to promote deeper understanding in a wider context.
The Maths Department fully engages with all of the Maths Departments within the Trust. This includes student activities, curriculum development and staff CPD. The school participates, through The Sigma Trust, in leadership development programmes, including NPQML and NPQSL. We are committed to career development and currently two members of the department are completing the NPQML.
Information about the School
The Thomas Lord Audley School is a high performing, over-subscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with just under 800 students (capacity 840), situated to the south of Colchester. It is the "most improved school in Essex" (Essex LA September 2016). It serves a diverse catchment area including Old Heath, Monkwick, Shrub End and the villages to the south of Colchester including the community of Mersea Island.
Categorised as good and rapidly improving in its recent Ofsted inspection, it has been commended for the quality of its leadership, the standard of its teaching, and the welfare, behaviour and achievement of its pupils.
On 1 September 2016, the school joined The Sigma Trust, a partnership of schools with The Stanway School, St Helena School, Clacton County High School, Monkwick Junior School and Monkwick Infants School and Nursery. In the past, the school has benefited from the Stanway Federation’s programme of seconding high quality staff between schools and the development of wide-ranging in-service training which has led to on-going school improvement. Working in collaboration with all the schools within The Sigma Trust can only enhance this development.
