Clacton Coastal Academy is a school that has had a poor reputation for a number of years but, from January 2020, is now under new leadership and this reputation will change. There is a great deal of work to be done in the academy but it is our intention that this school will be one of the top in the region in as short a time as possible. To that end, we are seeking exceptional teachers and leaders to join us in turning around this school.
The Executive Director for the academy was previously responsible for the turnaround of Harris Battersea which rose to become one of the top ten schools in the country after being one of the worst in London for many decades. With his support, the changes at this school will be rapid and there will be many opportunities for promotion amongst staff who are capable of doing something special for the students within our care.
As a Senior Leader in the school, you will be integral to the running of the school. You will be pivotal in driving the school forward and your voice will carry as much weight in any discussions as the Principal's. There is no hierarchy to care and all voices at the academy are equal in the planning of our school; differences of opinion are actively encouraged around the table and once a course of action is decided upon, the SLT own each decision in its entirety. Given that the qualities we look for in our leaders stand separate from those associated with specific roles, we will appoint people with the ability to inspire, lead and challenge our staff and allocate organisational responsibilities in keeping with their experience. In joining this team, you will join one of the most dynamic leadership teams in the country and part of a career defining turnaround.
The school believes that teachers should focus on marking, planning and teaching and that everything else is a distraction. This means that teachers will never be asked to make a phone-call home about behaviour, they will never be asked to accept a student from another classroom and they will never be asked to run a detention. The Senior Leadership Team will manage all of this so that teachers can set about filling the gaps in knowledge that too many supply teachers have left in our students.
Situated in an area of high deprivation, the school mirrors many of the issues that are common to an inner-city school. The academy requires people who will stop at nothing to improve the lives of our pupils, many of whom do not have the easiest of starts in life and, side-by-side with a group of like-minded staff, are intolerant of mediocrity, relentless in the application of high standards and tenacious in their belief that students are always capable of more. Equally, you can expect to be well-compensated: we want the best teachers and it is important that we recognise the worth of exceptional people.
