The Children's Support Service is offering an exciting opportunity with the appointment of an Exams Officer and Business Support Supervisor based at our Hadleigh centre. The hours are 8.30 am - 4.30pm Monday - Thursday, 8.30am - 4pm Friday. Term time plus 1 week school holiday working.

CSS is a large, short stay, alternative provision, which has three main centres (in Basildon and Hadleigh), and was rated 'Good' by Ofsted in November 2016. We are a locally maintained service.

The appointed candidate will be part of an innovative and expanding service which supports local pupils and schools in the south of Essex. Our aim is to provide lasting, meaningful and positive outcomes for students who have struggled in mainstream education.

The role requires resilience, a good sense of humour and a desire to inspire and work with children from a wide range of backgrounds. It is essential that the business support administrator is positive and supportive, and respectful of our students, staff and visitors.

The successful applicant should be able to manage a demanding workload, while working to ensure a most effective service. Experience of School Internal and External Examination Processes is also desirable.

The main duties will include:

Administration and organisation of all aspects of external examinations

Administration for internal examinations

Admin support for the Hadleigh Centre

The successful candidate should:

Have a high degree of motivation and be fully committed to working in a school environment
Be able to work to deadlines, on their own initiative as well as part of a team
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Have experience of IT including SIMS

Please note that whilst this role is initially based at our Hadleigh Centre, there is a possibility that the successful candidate may be based at any of our sites in the South of Essex in the future

Information about the School

The Children’s Support Service is a short stay alternative provision in Essex. We educate and support children from KS1 - KS4 as well as providing an outreach service which works to support students, staff and schools in the local area. Our schools are based in Basildon (secondary) and Wickford (primary and secondary).

Our Medical Education Team work across South and West Essex and focus on not only educating children and young people but crucially reintegrating our students back into their mainstream school.

We now offer, in partnership with Essex Local Authority Education Access Team, an education and reintegration programme for students who have been permanently excluded from any part of Essex back to their local mainstream school.

Most of our students are referred to us due to challenges they may have faced in school; many come with additional needs and require academic, emotional and social support. We pride ourselves on overcoming these challenges and ensuring every student is successful.

We offer a wide range of subjects and match a mainstream setting through our core curriculum offer. At the same time, as a 'needs -led' provision we offer extensive enrichment opportunities to our students.

We collaborate with schools and professionals who need our support, and aim to reintegrate students back into mainstream education or prepare them for other lifelong learning opportunities.
