We are seeking to appoint an assertive, dedicated, caring team player, with excellent organisation and time management skills, to lead in the support and pastoral care of students. Focusing on behaviour management, attendance, wellbeing and communication with parents, you will be a key member of the 'team around the child', working closely with form tutors and a Head of Year, as well as a variety of outside agencies, to minimise barriers to learning.
The quality of pastoral care at Alec Hunter is rated very highly by our community and you would be joining a hugely experienced and committed team of outstanding Student Support Leaders. Each SSL oversees one year group in the school, whilst also playing a role in the shared management of Year 7. You must have a good standard of education yourself, and experience of working with young people in an education, welfare or social services setting would be an advantage. The successful candidate will be offered guidance and support from colleagues and senior leaders within the school but will also need to be resourceful and capable of achieving satisfactory resolutions to situations independently.
Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school, graded 'good' by Ofsted in 2017, with an established reputation as a warm and welcoming community. The school works in partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, through its membership of the Saffron Academy Trust.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
