English Leader

An opportunity has arisen for an interim senior leadership post, leading English at Fiveways. We are an expanding school and therefore, the post is likely to become permanent for the right candidate.

This exciting post would suit a professional who is keen to further develop their leadership experience and contribute to positive change in a rapidly expanding school. The post is initially offered as 'interim' to ensure that the leadership structure is fluid whilst the school expands. It also affords the Governing Body the opportunity to create the optimum leadership structure, once pupil numbers are increased.

We are a vibrant school and seek an innovative, passionate and inspirational teacher and leader who is committed to raising standards and the quality of learning for all pupils.

The English Leader will be directly accountable to the Headteacher and will be expected to attend SLT meetings, where appropriate and applicable to the role.

Key Purposes of the Position

To provide strong leadership focused on improving the quality of teaching and learning towards greater consistency of good or better teaching in order to improve attainment and progress in all aspects of English across the school.

To work closely with the Leadership Team and Governing Body, so that Stanway Fiveways Community Primary is a challenging and supportive learning environment where all members of the school community are able to flourish and realise their educational and personal potential.

Specific Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

He/she will

Play a key role in shaping the vision and direction for the school, setting out very high expectations for all and striving for outstanding outcomes for all pupils.

Inspire, motivate and influence staff and pupils, taking a lead role in developing and maintaining the highest standards of English teaching and learning across the school.

Lead the development of excellent learning and teaching of English, through monitoring and coaching for improvement.

Liaise effectively with other leaders across the school.

To play a key role in the development of assessment in English across the school - including assessment for learning strategies, as a key to improving the quality of teaching and learning. The Deputy Headteacher is responsible for developing assessment throughout the whole school.

To lead the core subject of English throughout the whole school by developing teaching and resources and ensuring continuity and progression through regular monitoring and review of provision.

To lead staff training and contribute to staff development meetings in school.

To lead and/or actively engage with moderation of English, both in-house and with other schools.

To develop the school's partnership with parents and their involvement in their child's learning

Teaching and Learning:

He/she will

Lead staff, by personal example, in classroom teaching performance, using a wide range of strategies to support the development of outstanding learning and teaching of English across the school.

Liaise with other leaders to ensure curriculum continuity and progression.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

He/she will

Further develop own professional knowledge and skills by attending relevant courses, reading to keep abreast of current educational thinking and participating fully in school staff development.

Ensure that the teaching of all aspects of English across the school are of high quality and reflect current best practice, and to promote high quality evidence of writing across all subject areas.

Be aware of, and work according to, the National Professional Standards for School Teachers.

Attend meetings in accordance with school policy and lead such meetings as required.

Prepare and present reports and other forms of high quality communication, as required, e.g. to governors, LA, parents, outside agencies.
