SCIENCE TECHNICIAN/LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT - APPRENTICE

Required State Date: February 2019 or earlier

Hour/Days Per Week: 35 hours per week, 8.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, term time plus non-pupil days (39 working weeks).

Salary payment will be the Apprentice National Minimum Wage (NMW) during the first year of apprenticeship and after the first year the NMW/NLW (National Living Wage) during the fixed term contract.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate Science Technician/Learning Support Assistant Apprentice to provide an efficient and high quality support to all students.

Overall Responsibilities:

After receiving guidance and training:

  • To provide an efficient and high quality support service to all students.
  • To promote the inclusion of all students.
  • To assist in providing efficient technical support to the Science department. In particular to prepare, store, maintain, clear materials and equipment used in Science lessons in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • In liaison with the class teacher to work with students to target identified learning needs.
  • To provide practical support in the classroom to students who have recognised learning needs, supporting them to achieve their potential.
  • To work with subject teachers to ensure lesson materials are used effectively in order for students to make the expected progress towards their target levels.

During the apprenticeship you will be assigned a Trainer/Assessor and you will complete a Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in School Certificate. You may also be required to complete English, Maths and IT Functional Skills (this will be determined by existing qualifications). You will be allocated a Trainer/Assessor who will assess you in the workplace on a monthly basis. In between these meetings you will have dedicated time away from your job to work on the apprenticeship and collate evidence for your apprenticeship e-portfolio with ongoing support from your Manager and Trainer/Assessor.

This will be a fixed term position and the duration of the apprenticeship will be determined by the job role and current skills. The minimum length of the apprenticeship will be one year and one week.

Information about the School

Ramsden Hall Academy is a Residential Special School for male students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) based in Ramsden Heath, Billericay, Essex.

The Academy was judged Good at its recent Ofsted inspections and is part of the Parallel Learning Trust, a Multi Academy Trust and DfE approved sponsor.

The Academy works with up to 100 secondary-age and Year 6 male students who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) issues offering a residential provision.

The Academy aims to support all students with their specific needs and barriers to learning to enable them to reach their full potential both academically and in terms of managing their behaviour. This is achieved by providing high quality teaching and learning and by using assessment, engagement and developing educational programmes. The Academy works actively with students and their families to ensure positive outcomes for all.

Focused attention is paid to the student’s individual needs through an integrated therapeutic approach to the curriculum. The Academy works with families to put in place aspirational targets for all learners and always celebrate the achievements of students to reinforce their success and achievement.

Any of the students demonstrating the skills and attainment required to successfully reintegrate into a mainstream school will be supported in the transition. Families will also receive support and guidance on how to best work with the school to help ensure their child is successful. The Academy aims for all students to enter further education, training or employment on exit from the Academy.

Our site is both attractive and well equipped in all areas of the curriculum and is well resourced. The school is situated with 14 acres of land in Ramsden Heath, near Billericay.
