EAL COORDINATOR

Band: MPR/UPR and possible additional allowance

Hours: 2 to 4 days per week, to be mutually agreed at interview.

St. Mary's Prittlewell Church of England Primary School is 'a good and rapidly improving school' (Ofsted 2016).

We require, from Spring, an enthusiastic, energetic and well qualified teacher with a real interest in the provision of quality teaching for all students, but in particular those with EAL, to join our dynamic and supportive team. In doing so, the successful applicant will share the responsibility for the quality of the EAL provision by devising and teaching programmes to enhance the provision of EAL children within the school. Additionally, they will support teachers to operate at their optimum effectiveness in the delivery of the curriculum for EAL pupils so that they can achieve their full potential.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:EAL Coordinator

GRADE: MPR/UPR and possible additional allowance

RESPONSIBLE TO:

DEPUTY HEAD AND SENCO

ROLE:

To share the responsibility for the quality of the EAL provision by devising and teaching programmes to enhance the provision of EAL children within the school; to support teachers to operate at their optimum effectiveness in the delivery of the curriculum for EAL pupils so that they can achieve their full potential.

KEY TASKS:

§ To uphold the Christian ethos of the school by promoting the seven Christian Core Values.

§ To plan, coordinate and manage the delivery of the EAL provision and curriculum, including appropriate documentation.

§ To promote a purposeful, exciting learning environment which aims to raise children's participation, their understanding, enjoyment and their self-esteem.

§ To co-ordinate the development of all EAL work within the school and to administer and manage matters relating to EAL.

§ To support class teachers in the planning of lessons which effectively integrate appropriate provision for EAL learners.

§ To teach groups of EAL children, supporting the learning taking place within the classroom.

§ To plan, co-ordinate and implement procedures for Assessment, Recording and Reporting in the EAL areas.

§ To identify training needs and contribute to the facilitation of its delivery.

§ As with all staff, have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people s/he is responsible for or comes into contact with.

§ To support the promotion of British Values within the school community.

§ To liaise with parents to support the academic development of the child as well as the child's physical well-being and social and emotional development.

Qualifications
· Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

· Degree in a relevant subject

· PGCE or equivalent
· Completion of a further qualification in EAL
Experience
· An effective teacher with at least a year's experience of teaching

· Experience of EAL work

· Ability to share their experience to sustain a curriculum which is sensitive to the needs of all children
· Understanding of needs and strategies for effective differentiation

· Experience of a range of teaching and learning styles


Ability / Skills
· Ability to teach EAL/SEN

· Able to translate an idea into curriculum delivery

· Able to demonstrate clear understanding of EAL issues

· Able to effectively manage administration

· Willingness to motivate colleagues
· Willingness to acquire skills as appropriate

· Ability to manage a budget
