WEST LEIGH INFANT SCHOOL
Welfare / Attendance Officer required from 3rd September 2024 or immediate start
Permanent Position Term Time only
Level 5 Salary Points 8 - 12, actual salary range £7,887 - £8,436
Part time role - Thursday & Friday 8.00a.m. - 3.30p.m.
We are looking for an empathetic and caring person to join our wonderful school community.
The ideal candidate will effectively take charge of the health and well being of our pupils and staff on a day to day basis and provide some clerical support to our staff.
The successful applicant will be required to
· Manage medical needs and administer first aid across the whole school
· work successfully as part of a team
· show initiative and flexibility
· work successfully with young children and their families
· To monitor and report on pupil attendance across the school

Job Description
Purpose of the Job
To effectively take charge of the day-to-day health of each child within the school
To provide an effective and efficient clerical/general welfare support to the Administration Team
Duties and Responsibilities
Welfare
· Administer first aid and medicine to pupils as required, in keeping with the school's policy, and order first aid supplies as necessary
· Maintain school first aid boxes on site and school trips
· Assist School Nurse with medical appointments
· Advise and train school staff and children in specific procedures which they could be expected to carry out in the absence of a trained nurse
· Promote health education in partnership with the teaching/support staff and the Health Authority
· Ensure that the highest possible standards of clinical procedures are maintained
· Liaise with parents regarding pupils' sickness/injury
· Liaise with parents and medical personnel
· Work within Child Protection Procedures and to liaise with nominated Child Protection Officer
· Be aware of Southend Child Protection procedures
· Ensure confidentiality of all medical information
· Provide assistance with first aid as required
· Liaise with Kitchen Staff to ensure specific dietary requirements are being met
Clerical
· To record daily, pupils' absences via SIMS
· Ensure the school is always well stocked with photocopier paper and reprographics resources
· Undertake filing, photocopying and reprographic work as required, including the basic maintenance of the photocopier
· Assist with lost property
· Receive and deliver message to class teachers
· Receive and deliver pupils' belongings to class teachers
· Keep a stock of school uniform/plimsolls/underwear in case of soiled/forgotten items
· Provide refreshments for parents/visitors at various meetings
Attendance
· Complete attendance daily including any first day absence calls
· To ensure the electronic registration system is updated daily investigating any missing data with class teachers
· Promote good attendance in the school
· To issue letters/correspondence to parents/carers regarding attendance/persistent absence
· To collate attendance data producing routine reports and prepare statistical returns regarding attendance and submit to reporting bodies
· Liaise with Head teacher/SENCo over attendance concerns
· Liaise with external agencies over persistent absence or other attendance issues
· Attend meetings with external agencies and parents, as required
· Work with school leaders to develop and revise the school's attendance policy
· Implement Children Missing in Education (CME) procedures when appropriate
General
To undertake any training commensurate with the post
To maintain confidential files to ensure that the Head teacher has access to the most up-to-date information and that appropriate files are made ready and given to the Head teacher in advance of meetings on a daily basis
All employees are expected to show a responsible attitude to health and safety issues and have due regard for their personal safety and that of others
Support, uphold and contribute to the development of the school's equal rights policies and practices in respect of both employment issues and the delivery of services to the community

West Leigh Infant School is a large, popular infant school, located in the historic fishing village of Leigh-on-Sea. Our school is held in high esteem by our community, eleven years ago we celebrated our centenary and there are strong links with local families.
'Together we aim high, work hard, have fun' - our school is a welcoming, friendly, caring school with happy, confident children who enjoy learning and achieving well. In addition, our pupils are fortunate to be able to walk to the sea, visit local churches and Belfairs Park as well as enjoying a wide range of coach and rail trips. We also benefit from an on-site swimming pool. We are a maintained school with a 4 form entry teaching children in the age range 4 - 7 years.
