St. Mary’s is a church primary school in the small rural town of Burnham-on-Crouch. We have one class per year group from Reception to Year 6 and there are currently 205 pupils on roll, which means that everyone knows each other and there is a real family atmosphere and nurturing approach. Our Statutory Church School Inspection in February 2015 said "The staff team work with dedication to support a community where all pupils are happy and can thrive and succeed."
The school has attractive and spacious grounds, with a good sized playground, spiritual garden, large field and its own swimming pool. We also have a well equipped computer suite and Clever Touch Screens in all classrooms throughout the school, as well as several sets of laptops which are used by individual pupils.
St. Mary’s children are happy, confident and hardworking. They respond well to their teachers and get on with each other. Our Ofsted inspection in June 2016 said that "the behaviour of pupils is good" and that "pupils are polite, well-mannered and courteous." This means that working here is a very rewarding experience.
Our parents and carers are very supportive and always keen to participate in school life. Some parents volunteer to help at school with different activities. We are fortunate to have a very active Parents' Teachers' and Friends' Association which supports us in many ways, including fundraising for the school. Our June 2016 Ofsted report said: "Most parents feel that their children are safe, happy and secure in school." One parent was quoted by Ofsted as saying "It is absolutely brilliant. They come home happy and learn well."
We have an inclusive Christian ethos and good links with our local community. This supports very good spiritual, moral, social and cultural development at the school. We were graded as good in all areas of our Statutory Church School Inspection of February 2015, which said: "The effectiveness of leadership and management of the school as a church school are good," acknowledging that "Parents value this school as an inclusive community and recognise the ‘extra mile that staff go’ in ensuring the well-being of all." This view was supported by a good Ofsted inspection in June 2016, which commented that "There is a caring culture across all aspects of the school."
We follow an exciting, topic-based curriculum, which uses a cross curricular approach. We are extremely proud to have achieved the International School Award, which greatly enriches life at St. Mary's and our participation in a range of international projects and activities is an exciting aspect of school life.
We are very proud of our school and pleased that our Ofsted inspection in June 2016 graded the school as good in all areas.
