School based Counsellor

September 2022

One-year Contract to July 2023

Essex PayScale 6 pt. 12 - 18

£22,571 - £25,419 (dependant on experience) plus inner Fringe

37 Hours per week term time only. Part time may be considered

We are looking to appoint an experienced, exceptional counsellor who will work directly with students and parents, providing support to those in need. The role will involve providing a professional counselling service, making a significant contribution to the promotion of good mental health and wellbeing


The successful candidate must be someone who can guide and support in a calming manner, adapting their approach as required. The role will require the candidate to work closely with the safeguarding team, pastoral team and potentially outside agencies.


Ideal candidates will have:

A valid registration/membership with a relevant professional body such as BACP/UKCP (possible financial support offered)
Accreditation with a professional body such as BACP, UKCP, BPS or be working towards accreditation.
A relevant recognised counselling or psychotherapy Diploma/Degree. Ideally having completed a post-graduate diploma specifically related to working therapeutically with young people
A professional kind and calm manner with strong interpersonal skills
A secure understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues faced by young people
A deep knowledge of therapeutic approaches that work with children and adolescents
The ability to support students to overcome individual barriers to succeeding
