Academic Mentor
30 hours per week - 43.7 weeks (38 weeks term time + 1 week Inset days + annual leave)
09:00 to 15:30 (with 30 minute break)
Actual Salary - £14,893 per annum (£11.36 per hour)
Academic Mentors are sought to make a significant impact on student progress and achievement as part of the country's ongoing recovery plan from the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim is to reach those KES students who are underachieving and remove any barriers to learning, supporting and encouraging them to fulfil their potential.
The Academic Mentors will work closely with relevant teaching staff and provide academic support and guidance to a range of students to promote effective participation, enhance individual learning and raise aspirations. The ability to promote a positive, optimistic attitude to learning and achievement within the school, with students, families/carers and the wider community is essential, as well as demonstrating the effective management of students to ensure they meet their targets and deadlines and achieve their 'personal best'. A commitment to continuing professional development and gaining relevant qualifications is a prerequisite.
The successful candidate will have:
- Successful experience working with children in a school environment
- Educated to at least Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent qualification /experience
- Ability to establish rapport and to maintain respectful and trusting relationships
- The ability to overcome barriers to learning with children by implementing school policies, procedures and identified support mechanisms
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
- A passion to improve learning and work collaboratively with teaching staff to aid the progress of all students and develop their confidence
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines
- A good understanding of Health and Safety, safeguarding and child protection
- A commitment to equality and diversity and inclusion
