Caretaker (potential to become Site manager) needed

Full time position (37 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year) on a split shift plus potential out of hours lettings and overtime, with further potential for flexible working during school holidays. 23 - 27 days holiday taken in school holidays.

Required from October 2021 or as soon as possible for the right candidate.

Pay grade Giffards Scale 3 £19,248-£21,315, negotiable subject to experience. Overtime/out of hours lettings paid as overtime.

We are looking for a friendly, practical, hardworking and reliable person who can use their initiative, be organised and take responsibility for overall caretaking of the site and be an integral part of our Giffards team.

You must take pride in your work, have a can-do attitude, and a willingness to learn. Good communication and written skills are essential as you will be liaising with contractors and tradesman as well as students and staff.

As caretaker you will contribute to the smooth running of the school by helping to provide a safe and high quality environment that in turn supports the educational needs and emotional welfare of the staff and pupils. This involves making sure internal, external areas of the premises are clean, well maintained, secure, and that janitorial tasks are carried out with the appropriate resources and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Our Health & Safety testing schedules need to be followed, i.e regular fire alarm and emergency lighting tests as well as water temperature tests. Knowledge of Health & Safety is an advantage but training will be offered as necessary in all relevant aspects of the role for the right person.

Candidates should be able to undertake a range of minor DIY and maintenance jobs as well as working closely with and managing the cleaning team.

As off call duties may be necessary you would ideally live locally but must live within a 20 minute radius of the school and hold a full driving licence; use of own car is essential as you will be required to attend the site outside of normal hours.

For the right candidate there is the potential to progress onto Site Manager.

Information about the School

Giffards has been a primary school since 2005, with the amalgamation of the previous Infant and Junior schools. We currently have 14 classes with 405 pupils. We are a welcoming, friendly and inclusive primary academy, where we nurture and celebrate the achievements of all of our children. We have a large, experienced team of teachers and LSAs as well as specialist Music and PE staff. This has created a large school. We have invested heavily in ICT; all our classrooms have interactive screens as does our music room. We have an ICT suite with 30 computers plus interactive screen and also every child has access to their own chrome book as well as a set of headphones. All teaching staff have their own laptops which are used for planning and centralisation of information and resources.

Giffards Primary School continues to be a good school. The pupils at Giffards Primary School are walking, talking examples of the school’s values, particularly being caring and respectful. They build warm, supportive relationships with staff - Ofsted March 2022
