We wish to appoint an experienced individual to provide pastoral support within our school, to uphold our high standards and achieve the aims of the school.

We are looking for an immediate start for the following role:

Assistant Head of Year

The successful applicant will be expected to work with pastoral staff to maintain our high standards of behaviour and attendance, encourage students' engagement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activity and support the achievement and progress of students.

The successful candidates will need to:

· Demonstrate that they are proactive and able to use their own initiative to make decisions within the scope of their role

· Demonstrate the confidence to communicate clearly and effectively with large groups of students and in one to one situations

· Evidence a clear and fluent written style for effective communication with parents and professionals

· Demonstrate the resilience to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy but also to follow up with tenacity when upholding school policies

· Demonstrate an ability to collate, manipulate (via Excel etc.) and analyse data to support the achievement and well-being of students

· Have a "can do" attitude to join our efficient, friendly team and able to effectively work under pressure

Information about the School

The Gilberd School is an extremely popular, oversubscribed mixed 11-16 comprehensive school, in North Colchester with a reputation for creating an ethos of high aspirations for all 1570 students. The school is on a large site. There has been considerable expansion and modernisation in recent years. Classroom accommodation is generally modern and spacious. We have excellent sports and performing arts facilities.

We are a large and successful 11 to 16 comprehensive school in Colchester and as such we offer a diverse range of posts. Staff working at The Gilberd are able to join a happy, positive and busy school. Our students appreciate the excellent education on offer and are positive and motivated. Our staff are our most valuable resource. There are 200 staff currently working on The Gilberd Site, the teaching staff are ably assisted by a team of talented support staff.

In many respects these apply just as much to staff as to students. One of the strengths of the school is the quality of relationships, amongst all staff and between staff and students. We work together within an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust which supports our aims.

The results of our work can be seen in the things we can measure like our exam results, which are consistently very good. Our many successes have been recognised in our most recent Ofsted report of November 2018. This report judged us to be Outstanding in every category. Our examination successes are due to the skill and commitment of all of our hard-working staff who do all they can to ensure all students achieve their best.

We also pride ourselves on the successes that cannot be measured, the positive atmosphere in school, the pride that we have in the many successes of our staff and students and the genuine warmth of our community. We believe in educating the whole person and have worked to create a school where sporting, artistic and performing events are fully integrated into our lives; hopefully this is reflected in the myriad of activities you can see on our website.
