It is an exciting time at Becket Keys Church of England School (Outstanding, 2014). We are working hard to build upon the exam successes of our founding cohorts, whilst also establishing our new 6th Form into its fifth year.

We are seeking an additional teacher/HLTA to increase capacity in our SEN department. Whether you specialise in SEN or just share our passion for seeing all students succeed we would like to hear from you. This could be an ideal post for a primary trained colleague who would like to start working with older children in our outstanding Church of England secondary school.

The post is a vital appointment in terms of fulfilling our Christian vision and ambition for our inclusive school to secure and enhance positive life chances for our most vulnerable students. As such, we are determined to recruit a highly capable, dedicated and ambitious professional who will add value to the school in ensuring excellent levels of academic progress and securing the best possible social and emotional well-being for our students.

Whilst an unstoppable passion for supporting our most vulnerable students and those with barriers to learning is essential, our expert Trust (The Russell Education Trust) can provide training, advice and support to anyone who is still at an early stage in their career. Indeed, the rôle could particularly suit NQTs (newly qualified teachers) or recent graduates (unqualified teachers) who are keen to learn and make a very positive contribution. HLTAs from Primary or Secondary backgrounds should definitely consider this a rôle that would suit them.

We need our SEN staff to teach Core subjects, but we are open to discuss options around this element of the role. We will utilise the teacher/HLTA to deliver lessons, small group lessons, mentor students 1:1 and assist in lessons.

The successful candidate will play a crucial rôle in our dedicated inclusion team. We do not use 'teaching assistants' but instead prefer to use 'learning support technicians' who support the 'assess review do' process - keeping the responsibility for delivering all SEN support with the class teachers who are always the experts in the room. This teacher/HLTA will help to guide these colleagues in their work.

The successful candidate will also be supported to work with parents, local authority officers, educational psychologists, SEN specialist teachers. It is a particularly demanding rôle in this respect as there can be very difficult conversations to be had and these must be handled skilfully and sensitively.

If you possess the qualities and passion we need for this vital role, we would welcome your application.

In line with Government guidance, we are currently limiting access to our school. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In some instances, we may use remote processes in place of school-based interviews and therefore we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are available via Teams/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

Understandably, visits to the school may be limited at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact email us at vacancies@becketkeys.org.

We reserve the right to close advertisements early. Advertisements will therefore close at 12 noon, either on the advertised closing date, or the day the decision has been taken to close the advertisement early.

Becket Keys is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The appointee will be committed to our high expectations and core Christian values. However, we welcome applications from teachers irrespective of their faith or lack of it. All we ask is that all applicants appreciate and respect the beliefs of others and have strong moral principles.

Staff will be provided with a comprehensive induction programme and laptop.

Relocation packages and childcare vouchers are available. On-site childcare is available at a discounted rate for staff members.

Staff of the school benefit from priority admission for their children. Our admissions policy effectively guarantees staff children a place in the school. With nearly 800 applications for our 150 places each year, this is a significant perk!
