About the team

Harlow College students receive an outstanding level of social, emotional and learning support from the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team. Our staff have the specialist skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality, personalised support that effectively meets the needs of learners.

About the role

You will work with a variety of students including 16- 18, 19+, apprentices and those on bespoke programmes. The role will consist of supporting the teaching staff with social, emotional and behaviour support as well as providing learning support to students as appropriate. This will include emotional support strategies and the ability to set appropriate boundaries and individual targets. The ability to de-escalate challenging situations. Assisting students with their organisational skills, time-management skills, helping to clarifying content, making simple notes, differentiating materials, and improving their ability to manage their own learning needs towards independence. You will be able to identify and implement a holistic approach to SEMH needs to enable students to progress with their learning. You will have the ability to promote independence and employ strategies to recognise resilience and achievement. You will also work with learners and teaching staff to agree an appropriate programme of study support for the learner, which might include one to one support or small groups.

What we are looking for

You will need to have experience of working with young people with learning difficulties, disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs. Ideally you will be educated to a minimum of Level 3 Maths & English and be able to understand and utilise digital technology in your practise. Experience of working within an educational environment or specialist education settings. It would be advantageous if you hold either a SEN qualification or NVQ3 in supporting Teaching and learning (or equivalent).
