Term time only

Points 7-11 (NJC April 2019)

£6756 PA (FTE £19,554 + £609 outer fringe)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Clerk to trustees for the HEARTS academy trust. The successful applicant will be supported by senior staff and the Chair of Trustees to manage the preparation, organisation and implementation of trustee meetings. The Clerk will ensure all governance follows national guidelines and good practice, supporting the trustees' aim of providing a high quality education for all pupils and being the employer of choice for educational professionals. The Clerk will also be the Company Secretary and responsible for ensuring Company House records are updated.

Trustees hold six meetings a year and the successful candidate will manage these meetings from the beginning, writing the agendas, requesting the relevant papers, uploading information to the portal, taking minutes and distributing actions. The Clerk will be the main point of contact for trustees and the link between staff and the board. The Clerk will be responsible for recruiting new trustees, ensuring their appointments are in line with good practice and are suitably skilled for a 21st century multi-academy trust. The successful candidate will source national training and guidance and disseminate this to the board and to local advisory boards, as well as delivering training in their area of expertise to Trustees, LAB members and staff.

Within the trust there are currently six schools and an alternative provision monitored by four local advisory boards (LABs). Each LAB meeting will be overseen by the Clerk who will set up the meetings online, set agendas and ensure the meetings are run with the same high expectation of quality that the trustees expect. The Clerk will monitor the minutes and train local clerks where necessary.

The Clerk will be highly organised and proficient in IT solutions, using all Microsoft packages and willing to learn specific governance and educational software. Clerk training is available for the right candidate and mentoring with another trust will be encouraged. The Trust is an equal opportunities employer. If we receive enough high quality applicants we will close this vacancy early, therefore we advise that you do not delay applying.
