We are looking to appoint a Caretaker for our large Infant and Nursery school. Hamstel Infant School and Nursery prides itself on being a child focused caring community; one in which all stakeholders views are valued. The main scope of the job will be:

To contribute to the smooth running of the School by carrying out a range of caretaking duties including security and supervision of the site and related equipment, and other caretaking duties including porterage, cleaning and maintenance. Management of cleaning staff/work. To ensure Health and Safety procedures and guidance are adhered to at all times.

To act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds. The routine and non-routine opening of premises and grounds. Responding to calls outside normal working hours as a result of break-ins etc. and / or the setting off of the burglar alarm(s).

Undertaking any cleaning as required or as the need arises.

Carrying out first line repairs and maintenance which are not beyond the scope and capability of the postholder including basic electrical and plumbing, redecoration etc.

Taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods and conveying them to their points of distribution.

Dispatching goods, materials etc. including registers, milk and fruit.

Carrying out routine procedures and/or checks on ancillary equipment, e.g. checking batteries, automatic pumps and areas subject to flooding.

Carrying out school based procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.

Testing for Legionella on all taps and pipes as appropriate.

Planning of own workload in consultation with other caretaking staff and planning and allocating duties/hours of work for cleaning staff. Ensuring all appropriate contractors or staff complete necessary works in a timely manner to keep up to date all registers, schedules of work and cyclical maintenance register.

Instructing cleaning staff in all aspects of their work.

Undertaking letting and related duties as appropriate in accordance with the local agreement.
