Family Support Worker

Band 5: £21,680 - £27,448 pro-rata (actual £15,441 - £19,549)

30 hours per week - 39 weeks per year

Required September 2019 (or asap)

Abbots Hall Primary Academy is looking to appoint a Family Support Worker who will work within our school to support vulnerable families and their children in their academic and social progress.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about making a difference and improving outcomes for children and young people and their families. Our Family Support Worker will help our families get better access services and address their family needs.

Experience of working with vulnerable families and a relevant qualification would be desirable.

Job role:
To be responsible for managing a caseload of families who have been identified as needing additional family support.
Work alongside others to support families referred to the Family Support Worker i.e. Learning Mentors, SENCO, Children's Centre Outreach Workers, Children's Social Work Service, Health Visitors, Educational Psychologist, Housing, Benefits Office and any other relevant services.
To co-ordinate and support pupils, their families and staff with administering prescribed medicines in school.
To seek advice and guidance from Prevention and Support Services and Children Social Work Service when working with a vulnerable pupil and their families.
To become lead professional for a CAF where involvement with family requires multi-agency support.
To monitor pupils' attendance, working with Thurrock EWO services to support pupils with low or persistent absence.
To offer professional support and encouragement to parents/carers individually, relating to the development and well-being of their children.
To be able to manage and respond to any changes in the families' circumstances, being particularly aware of the impact of any crisis events that may occur and ensuring all relevant agencies are made aware of significant changes.
Keep records and appropriate documentation pertaining to any contact and work with children, young people and families.
To signpost parents/carers to the range of universal groups, supports, services and activities on offer, including Library services, out of school activities, web-based information i.e. Family Hub, EHWB, health services, youth services and groups.
Actively promote parent and families' appreciation and participation in self-development, learning and/or parenting programmes through a range of learning activities and Family Learning.
Participate in self-development; attend training, groups/workshops relevant to role to keep up to date with current initiatives, best practice guidance and approaches.
To ensure Abbots Hall Primary Academy's policies (i.e Safeguarding and Attendance) are continuously updated with current legislation and shared across the school and its community.
