Teacher of Music

Part time 0.2/0.4 contract

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our Music Department for a part time position at The Boswells School. This job would be suitable for experienced staff or student teachers completing their training this summer. We are looking for the successful candidate to deliver high quality Music lessons and to develop an already strong provision within the Performing and Creative Arts Faculty.

The Boswells School is a school with many strengths and aspires to be outstanding. The Music Department is a high achieving department with over 85% of GCSE students awarded Grade 4+ last year, with 44% of students obtaining a distinction* for BTEC Music Technology. Music and Music Technology A levels are also offered. Therefore an applicant who has knowledge and understanding of fundamental practices within Music Technology would be favourably considered.

It is envisaged that the successful applicant will teach across the full age and ability range. The ability to teach A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and Key Stage 3 will be an advantage but is not essential. The successful applicant will be expected to lead/contribute to the extensive extra-curricular programme that the department offer.

The department has excellent facilities with a suite of 10 practice-rooms, a fully professional recording studio and a large range of world instruments and ICT equipment. The Boswells Academy would be an ideal place for a teacher new into the profession to launch their career, or be a place for more experienced staff to come and develop their teaching practice in a new and exciting direction.

The Boswells School is an 11-18, very successful, popular and oversubscribed school in the Springfield area of Chelmsford, Essex. In 2018,at GCSE 88% of all students achieved a 'good pass' (Grade 4+) in English (either Language or Literature or both) and 72% of students achieved a good pass in Mathematics. Both of these measures are significantly above the national averages, as was the percentage of students achieving a 'strong pass (Grade 5+). At A Level, 68% of all grades awarded were A*-B grades and 93% A*- C grades.All these measures of attainment are significantly above local and national averages and mean we are the highest performing non selective state school in Essex for A Levels.
