Learning Support Assistant - Permanent, Salary LGPS Band 2 Whole Range, Points 11-16, Actual Salary £13,668-£14,723 pa, Annual Salary £17,007-£18,319 pa (depending on experience)

Working term time plus inset/non-pupil days, 35 hours per week, 8.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Start Date: 23 April 2019

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to provide an efficient and high quality support to all students who is willing to work with teachers and other support staff to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This will involve supporting the planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities for individuals and small groups and supporting monitoring, recording and assessment.

Overall Responsibilities:

To provide an efficient and high quality support service to all students.

  • To promote the inclusion of all students.
  • In liaison with the class teacher to work with students to target identified learning needs.
  • To provide practical support in the classroom to students who have recognised learning needs, supporting them to achieve their potential.
  • To work with subject teachers to ensure lesson materials are used effectively in order for students to make the expected progress towards their target levels.
  • To assist in providing efficient technical support to the Science department. In particular to prepare, store, maintain, clear materials and equipment used in Science lessons in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.

Candidates must have:

Experience in working with children and young people of relevant age KS2/KS3/KS4 in a school
Good understanding of Science Curriculum. and willingness to undertake training in supporting practical activities.
GCSE or equivalent in English, Maths and Science (Grade C or above or equivalent)
Level 2 Functional Skills English & Maths or equivalent
Completion of Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools or equivalent.
Specialist skills/training in curriculum or learning areas
Certificate in First Aid or willingness to undertake training
Good IT skills
Good understanding of curriculum with ability to support practical activities.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Basic understanding of child development and learning.

Ability to organise own workload, follow a schedule and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and use initiative
Ability to stay calm under pressure
Ability to communicate effectively and relate well to both children and adults
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to provide excellent customer service, both to internal and external customers
Demonstrate a commitment to equality
Able to work flexibly to meet needs of the academy
Willing to undertake relevant training courses including travel if required
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Commitment to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.

Information about the School

Ramsden Hall Academy is a Residential Special School for male students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) based in Ramsden Heath, Billericay, Essex.

The Academy was judged Good at its recent Ofsted inspections and is part of the Parallel Learning Trust, a Multi Academy Trust and DfE approved sponsor.

The Academy works with up to 100 secondary-age and Year 6 male students who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) for Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) issues offering a residential provision.

The Academy aims to support all students with their specific needs and barriers to learning to enable them to reach their full potential both academically and in terms of managing their behaviour. This is achieved by providing high quality teaching and learning and by using assessment, engagement and developing educational programmes. The Academy works actively with students and their families to ensure positive outcomes for all.

Focused attention is paid to the student’s individual needs through an integrated therapeutic approach to the curriculum. The Academy works with families to put in place aspirational targets for all learners and always celebrate the achievements of students to reinforce their success and achievement.

Any of the students demonstrating the skills and attainment required to successfully reintegrate into a mainstream school will be supported in the transition. Families will also receive support and guidance on how to best work with the school to help ensure their child is successful. The Academy aims for all students to enter further education, training or employment on exit from the Academy.

Our site is both attractive and well equipped in all areas of the curriculum and is well resourced. The school is situated with 14 acres of land in Ramsden Heath, near Billericay.
