Alec Hunter Academy is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and committed teacher of Geography to take responsibility for the strategic leadership of this important area of the curriculum. Applications are welcome from resourceful individuals, with a track record of high-quality classroom practice and evidence of effective leadership. A commitment to securing good progress for every student across the 11-16 age range and forming positive relationships with young people is essential. The successful candidate will join a Humanities department with a strong reputation for adventurous teaching and innovative practice, as well as a dedicated and supportive Middle Leadership Group, which plays a key role in driving improvement at the school.
Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. Ofsted graded the school as 'good' for the first time in its history in July 2017, with the report noting that "School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid". We are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
