Information about the School

St Martin's is a large co-educational comprehensive school located in Hutton, Brentwood. The school benefits from a pleasant semi-rural environment with agricultural land to the rear. The school, which also includes a large sixth form block, is situated on an open, attractive 30 acre site. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by both rail and bus. Hutton is five miles from the M25 and 19 miles from London, which is easily reached by road or train (25 minutes to Liverpool Street Station).

This is a large, but friendly school in which all staff are helped to develop their talents. This is supported by an extensive and wide ranging in-house continual professional development programme (CPD). We have high quality mentoring and induction programmes for staff with excellent opportunities for training and professional development. The school has 207 staff of which 88 are support staff.

In March 2019 the school was judged to be good with an outstanding sixth form by OfSTED.

Achievement at St Martin's School is outstanding. In 2022 72% of students achieved grades 5+ at GCSE. 57% of grades A*-B grades at A-level. A number of A-level students go on to study at Russell Group universities in subjects such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Law. Students arrive at the school in Year 7 with an average point score greater than 29.0. All students follow an accelerated KS3 programme in English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, beginning KS4 work at the start of Year 9. Learning and teaching is supported by a deputy head of faculty, and regular meetings to improve the teaching practice of all staff.

The school's emphasis on traditional values and high standards of behaviour, appearance and hard work has led to an excellent reputation in the community, which is reflected by the fact that we have attracted over 1166 applications annually for the 324 year 7 places. With 399 A-level students, we have one of the largest academic sixth forms in the country. All staff are required to set an example in areas such as personal appearance because this contributes positively to the ethos and influences the students' standards.

If you feel the school would suit you, and you have the passion, drive and commitment to work with us to make all aspects of our provision outstanding, please apply now.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
