An exciting opportunity for an experienced School Business Manager, or Bursar looking for promotion, to join the Senior Leadership team of an expanding junior school.

Contract: Part-time & Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week - term time (39 weeks per year) plus 3 weeks
Salary: LGPS Band 5 (£30,480 to £37,858 pro rata and dependent upon experience)

Montgomery Junior is a two form entry (growing to three forms in 2017) community junior school situated in the south of Colchester adjacent to the garrison. Ofsted judged the school to be 'Good' in February 2015.

We are looking to welcome a new School Business Manager who can manage the provision of the key support areas of the school to support teaching and learning including:

  • Financial and human resources management
  • Resources and facilities management
  • HR and data management
  • Marketing and promoting the school
  • Income generation and bids for funding

You will be expected to support the headteacher and governors in maintaining the high standards of financial and business management that currently exist. This is a key senior role within the school and you will be expected to lead in all non-teaching areas and bring a strong voice to the Senior Leadership Team. You will also line-manage administrative, catering, site management and cleaning staff. You will be an associate member of the school's Governing Body.

You will have:

  • Sound experience of financial management and budgetary control in schools with the relevant qualifications.
  • Experience or a sound understanding of income generation strategies.
  • Experience of IT and knowledge of accounting and Management Information Systems, eg SIMS.
  • A sound understanding and knowledge of human resources and payroll.
  • Sound leadership skills and the ability to effectively line-manage staff.
  • A high degree of motivation to be fully committed to working in a school environment.
  • A willingness and passion to get involved in the wider aspects of school life.
  • The skills to promote a positive image of the school through your work.
  • The ability to work to deadlines, on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Montgomery Junior School is a three form Junior school located on the leafy, garrison estate. The school has well established links with the military community and are proud to serve the families locally. Staff vacancies are rare due to the supportive team of staff and well behaved pupils. The school is set in extensive grounds with well kept facilities. . The school was inspected in November 2019 and was described as 'Good' in every category, with the potential to move to outstanding. The most recent Ofsted report (Nov 2019) commented on " the welcoming and supportive ethos of the school." and also the fact that "Pupils work hard in lessons to achieve their best."
