We are seeking to appoint an exceptional leader for Ortu Hassenbrook Academy, a member of the Ortu Federation. As Assistant Vice Principal for BfL, you will be a dynamic, committed leader who will join a forward-thinking and innovative team in this ambitious 11-16 Academy. Being able to offer MfL (French / Spanish), Maths Specialist or Humanities would be an advantage.

The Federation has ambitious plans to transform education in our academies, developing an aspirant culture and a dynamic learning experience that will rapidly improve the educational outcomes for all learners.

Working closely with the Principal of Hassenbrook Academy and Chief Executive Officer of the Ortu Federation you will provide a strong vision and acute professional leadership to ensure a high quality of education for all students. You will have significant experience of successful senior leadership and be able to demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of effective teaching and learning. Most importantly, you will share our commitment for improving educational outcomes across the Federation at pace.

About the school:

We are delighted you are applying for this post at Ortu. We are a small harmonious 11-16 secondary school in Stanford-le-Hope with an exciting future. In September 2016, we joined the Ortu Federation and in our MAT we have Ortu Corringham Primary School, Ortu Gable Hall School and Ortu Sixth Form Centre. The opportunities at our school and across our Trust are varied and rewarding; from career stage based CPD to teaching from KS2 to KS5.

At Ortu Hassenbrook we are on a rapid improvement journey across the board. Our reputation is positive. Our roll is increasing. Our outcomes are better. Our curriculum is revamped. For the past three years we have been in the top 5 schools in Thurrock for progress in Maths, Science and Music. We have excellent facilities with improved IT, new science labs, food technology rooms, library, sports hall, outdoor state-of-the-art netball courts, a running track and tennis courts. At Ortu Hassenbrook, every student is known, nurtured and developed to their full potential as they are driven by the opportunity to succeed.

GCSE results:

This year's results in numbers: 77% achieved grade 4+ in English; 75% achieved grade 4+ in Maths; 74% achieved grade 4+ in Combined Science; 100% achieved grade 4+ in Drama; 93% achieved grade 4+ in Art; 100% achieved grade 4+ in Music and 93% achieved grade 4+ in PE.

Ofsted 2019:

Our latest Ofsted inspection in May 2019 has seen improvements in behaviour, attendance and progress in core subjects. We are now looking to build on these strengths so that we remain a functionally good school.
