Due to the promotion of one of our amazing staff members, we have a vacancy for a learning mentor who will work as part of our Pastoral Team to support children academically as well as emotionally and socially. Learning Mentors provide support and guidance to children who are experiencing difficulties in their learning due to social, emotional or mental health needs. Once these needs have been identified, the Learning Mentor, in consultation with the Pastoral Team, puts supportive strategies in place to enable children to succeed in the classroom and maximise learning.
The successful applicant will:

  • be able to work as part of a large Pastoral Team;
  • be an excellent communicator verbally and have a good standard of written English;
  • be flexible and adaptable;
  • be relentlessly positive and seek solutions;
  • have a thorough understanding of inclusion and what makes an inclusive school;
  • promote positive relationships with parents and carers;
  • communicate effectively with outside support agencies;
  • help children to develop reciprocal and positive relationships with each other;
  • be proactive, enthusiastic and manages time well.

A willingness to dance, sing and wear fancy dress on the playground at lunchtime on a Friday would be desirable. Visits to our school are encouraged.

Start date 4th January if possible or soon after if required to give notice with current employer.

Information about the School

Our school is a four-form entry junior school catering for children from 7-11. We work in close partnership with our neighbouring infant school as well as other local primary schools.

Our school is a calm and purposeful environment where each child is valued and feels part of the school community. We work hard to promote the social, moral and cultural development of children so they develop positive relationships with staff and each other to help them to build confidence, independence and resilience. Our core values of respect, trust, responsibility, courage, perseverance and hope are well known by everyone in our school community and children use these values in all aspects of school life. Our children are happy at school and the staff work hard to ensure that learning is exciting, fun and memorable. We want every child to master the core skills of English and mathematics and for them to learn through a rich and creative curriculum. In short, we want to create a learning community that has every child skipping through our gates each day!

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
