St Osyth Priory is owned by the Sargeant family, whose firm City and Country, specialise in the restoration and redevelopment of historic buildings. The St Osyth Priory and Parish Trust was established in 2016. There is local representation on the Trust.

Its aims and objectives are to apply for grants and raise money so that the listed buildings can be restored and open for a range of activities and public engagements.

In 2019, the Trust began actively engaging with local schools. Their aspiration and vision now is to move ahead and open the Priory and its Parkland as a place where young people of all ages will be inspired to learn, engage,participate and interact. It will become a permanent educational resource for all learners in the Tendring district and beyond.

The Covid 19 pandemic has delayed the planning that was put in place for 2020. The Trust is now moving ahead and the modular buiding, situated behind the Priory walls is to be fitted out to become the Education Centre.

The employment of the Education Manager is a crucial first step and is central to the development of planned high quality educational acivities and experiences for the childen that will link to the classroom and beyond.

Overall Job Purpose

  • To be responsible for the development, implementation and provision of inspirational and exciting educational activities, enabling children to enjoy outdoor learning in entirely unique surroundings and in doing so boost their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • To be responsible for the organisation and arrangement of all the resouces so creating a learning space that supports and enhances the planned educational activities.
  • To begin planning that the Education Centre will become the hub for the delivery of additional educational related activities which wil include, adults, under 5's, KS3 to A levels and family related events so contributing to the wider visitor experience at St Osyth Priory.

Role Information

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Education Manager, who is committed to inspiring children by creating for them exciting, fun and memorable experiences, which will focus on the historic and natural landscape of St Osyth Priory.

The Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, creative and imaginative teaching practitioner who is committed to outdoor learning. They will lead with the planning and implementation of high quality activities which will enable the children to explore the entirely unique natural environment of St Osyth Priory.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the newly established Education Centre in the Priory grounds. They will have the energy and the foresight to see where there are opportunities for the future development of the Centre and have the drive to implement them.

The Trustees in making this appointment are making a firm commitment to furthering the delivery of education at St Osyth Priory, so making it a permanent education resource for the Tendring District and beyond.

In the first instance the position will be for 25-30 hours per week, this will be a subject for discussion between the Trustees and the successful candidate.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. This position will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
