Learning Support Assistant


27.5 hours per week - 44.3 weeks (term time + 1 week Inset days + annual leave)

8:45am - 3:15pm with 1 hour for lunch

Band: Scale 3

Job Share could be considered at 13.75 hours per week

Riverside Primary School is a popular, oversubscribed, community primary school at the heart of the charming village of Hullbridge. We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to join our happy, successful school. Initially the role is to provide support in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). However, the role may develop to provide assistance in the support and inclusion of children with special education needs in the classroom and school-wide activities across all key stages and may change depending on the needs of the children in the school.

The successful candidate will have:

Successful previous experience working with children in a school environment
Educated to Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent qualification /experience
Ability to establish rapport and to maintain respectful and trusting relationships
The ability to overcome barriers to learning with children by implementing school policies, procedures and identified support mechanisms
Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
A passion to improve learning and work collaboratively with teaching staff to aid the progress of all students and develop their confidence
Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines
A good understanding of Health and Safety, safeguarding and child protection
A commitment to equality and diversity and inclusion
A willingness to engage with a wider range of professionals to support the needs of the children in the class
An ability to keep accurate records pertaining to children and their progress towards individual and group learning goals

Ideally the successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience in the following areas:

Hold a Teaching Assistant qualification
Skills in Speech and Language support
Experience working with children in an Early Years setting
A good knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and Development Matters Curriculum
Experience working with and supporting children with significant learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Prior experience of attending pupils' personal needs including help with social, welfare and health matters, including minor first aid
A Pediatric Level 3 First Aid qualification
