The Education Legal Services Support Officer will administer and oversee the preparation for appeals before the Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal and provide high quality support and co-ordination in relation to Local Government Ombudsman cases, Judicial Reviews and other ad hoc legal challenges.
Good knowledge of SEN legislation, the Code of Practice and case law is required.
Service/Functional Accountabilities
Responsible for maintaining appropriate data systems, providing reports and statistical data on the Tribunal system.
Responsible for administering and overseeing the support system for the preparation and representation of the Council at appeals before the Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal (SEND).
Responsible for providing high quality support and co-ordination in relation to Local Government Ombudsman cases, Judicial Reviews and other ad hoc legal challenges.
Acts as the first point of contact and co-ordinator for receipt of SEN appeals from the Special Educational Needs & Disability Tribunal (SEND) and subsequently as principal liaison officer with the Tribunal administrative office and parents' advocates.
Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
Knowledge, skills and experience
• Possesses an RQF Level 4 qualification in law or equivalent by experience.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
• Evidence of providing legal administration support.
• Knowledge of SEN legislation, Code of Practice, and the Tribunal procedures.
• Experience of the MS Office suite of programmes and database systems.
• Experience of collecting, processing and analysing data, translating this into reports.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to deliver information to a wide range of Audiences.
