Teacher of the Deaf

Required from September 2019

Main scale + SEN points

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointed staff will be CRB checked without exception.

The Resource Base for Hearing Impaired Students (RBHIS) is staffed by a highly regarded, friendly and supportive team within our mainstream secondary school and works with 17 deaf students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. For September 2019, we would like to recruit an enthusiastic, qualified teacher of the deaf who has a particular interest in the teaching of maths or language and literacy to deaf students.

Although this post is for a teacher who has the Teacher of the Deaf qualification, teachers without the qualification may be considered if they are able to demonstrate an active interest and commitment to the education of deaf students and have a history of sustained experience working in a variety of educational settings with deaf students. Teachers without the Teacher of the Deaf qualification would need to be committed to undertaking the mandatory training to become a qualified Teacher of the Deaf.

The successful candidate will also:

have a record of good/outstanding teaching
be committed to inclusive practice
demonstrate experience of working with deaf students
show a thorough understanding of language development in hearing impaired children
have experience of effective assessment and monitoring procedures
demonstrate a commitment to high standards of achievement by deaf children
be able to work effectively with families
be well organised and able to work as part of a team, both in the Resource Base and in the school as a whole
have good ICT skills and an ability to maintain audiological equipment
Additionally:

BSL Level 1 is essential; BSL Level 2 and 3 are desirable
experience of teaching English, Mathematics or KS2 (preferred but not essential)

Our oversubscribed school achieved a 'GOOD' rating in its Ofsted inspection in February 2017 and we have a commitment to supporting students in developing as well-rounded individuals as well as achieving their academic potential. The RBHIS is highly regarded. The 2013 more detailed Ofsted report stated:

'The specialist provision for hearing impaired students is a strength of the school. Disabled students and those who have special educational needs, including those who have a hearing impairment, are fully integrated into the life of the school. One student with a hearing impairment said, 'Every parent wants their child to be supported and it happens here. This school has made me the person I am today.'

Although Ofsted reports have changed, the provision has not!

Great Baddow High School is very well thought of locally. Our motto, which translates as 'always striving for higher things' encapsulates our vision for our students and staff.

Pre-application visits are warmly encouraged particularly during the working day in order to view our students and teachers working together in well-equipped, specialist classrooms, using modern technologies and resources.

Please apply by downloading the application form or alternatively contact Yvette DeFeo on 01245 293711 or email on recruitment@gbhs.co.uk please leave your name, address, telephone number and email details. Closing date: Midday on Monday 29 April 2019
