Mersea Island School is a two-form entry primary which serves the 7,000 people of Mersea Island and surrounding villages. The school has a large site with an excellent sports field and a variety of buildings of various ages.
Our pupils are well-behaved, polite and happy. The school is a large part of the local community and this is something we wish to build upon and strengthen further.
Our island environment provides a wonderful backdrop and resource for the school. This supports our strong belief in the benefits of a broad and balanced curriculum. The pupils and staff are able to explore the beaches and coastal waterways, nature reserves, farm life and the Mersea Outdoors Activity Centre located in rural East Mersea. The school also enjoys links with the many sports and recreational clubs that the island has to offer.
We seek a Deputy Head who enthusiastically believes that good learning outcomes are built on high quality teaching and who is committed to further improving attainment and progress. The successful candidate will be dedicated to setting high expectations for staff, pupils and parents.
We are confident that our pupils will commit to the challenge and we wholeheartedly believe that a solid grounding for the conceptual subjects provides the basis for building their resilience, perseverance and pace as they progress through secondary education and beyond.
We have a well-balanced and very dedicated Governing Board who take an active role in the running of the school.

Information about the School
Mersea Island School currently has 380 pupils aged 2-11, this includes a nursery with capacity for up to 48 children. It is the only school on the island, serving a closely knit community. The school is located on Mersea Island, off the coast of Essex and close to Colchester. The area surrounding the school in the town of West Mersea is semi-rural. The island is famous for its oyster cultivation and traditional fishing boats, and has a history of sailing. Pupils derive from a very mixed social background, and many of the pupils have parents and grandparents who attended the school.
