LGS Band 3 (point 17-21)

31 hours and 40 minutes per week - 39 weeks per year (Term time plus inset days)

Actual Salary £14,000 to £15,358 per annum

We are looking for a dynamic, well-qualified and committed English Progress Mentor to join our SEND Department. We would also welcome applications from Under Graduates looking for an industrial placement. Experience of the Accelerated Reader Programme is desirable.

The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College is a school where students achieve well and are part of a strong, caring community. Our school's ambition was recognised by Ofsted in May 2016 when it was stated that, "School leaders are ambitious. They want the school to become outstanding and they are doing the right things to achieve this."

The successful candidate will work closely with our SENCO and English team to raise the attainment of some of our most vulnerable students. The role will include, one to one teaching, small group work and supporting students/teachers in lessons when appropriate. Our English Department consists of nine full time English teachers assisted by one additional staff member who also teaches media and two subject specific Learning Support Assistants.

At GCSE, 60% of students achieved a 9-4 pass in both English and Maths, a 7% increase from 2016; 70% of students gained a 'standard pass' in English, also a 7% increase from 2016 and in line with the national figure of 72%. 50% of students achieved a 'strong' pass in English (grade 5 or above) compared to the national figure of 55%. Attainment 8 in English was 4.42 in comparison to the whole school figure of 4.30 with overall progress in English measured at -0.30 compared to the whole school figure of -0.07. Overall GCSE results improved from 2016 with 57% of students achieving 5A*C (or equivalent) including English and Maths, a 4% increase over last year.

We are keen to appoint dedicated colleagues who are eager to support our students to achieve in all aspects of their school life and who want to be key contributors to our school's success.

We encourage visits from prospective candidates to meet members of our school community and to experience our school at first hand. If you would like to do this please contact Shelley Edwards, HR Assistant on 01268 627866 or via email to recruitment@bromfords.essex.sch.uk

Closing Date: Monday 19th November, midday

Interviews: w/c 26th November, 2018

Information about the School

Our school is making rapid progress since its inspection in November 2022. A recent review by the Local Authority commented on the ‘sea change’ noted in students’ behaviour and the culture and ethos of the school. Our 2023 outcomes were the best set of Key Stage 4 results achieved by Year 11 students since 2016. Our Year 7 intake continues to be oversubscribed, with a waiting list.

Our school is a strong, caring community underpinned by our three core values of achieve, enrich and prepare. Our school’s culture is focused on the principles of high expectations and aspirations for all members of our community; actions and conversations, however difficult, are always underpinned by kindness; that we communicate and share success; that we value each other’s views and opinions; decisions are evidence based and student centred.

Our Governing body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The successful applicant will be offered a position subject to full pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS clearance, satisfactory medical checks and 2 satisfactory references.
